Why SPF is more important every day than you think

Many people think that sunscreen is only necessary on holiday or during hot summer days. But UV damage happens every day - even when it’s cloudy, you’re sitting inside by a window, or just stepping outside for a moment. And that daily exposure is what causes long-term skin aging, pigmentation spots, and damage to collagen.

There are different types of UV rays.

UVB rays are responsible for sunburn and can contribute to skin cancer. UVA rays penetrate deeper into the skin and accelerate skin aging, such as wrinkles and loss of firmness. That’s why a broad-spectrum SPF is so important: it protects against both types of radiation.

What many people also forget: sunscreen needs to be reapplied regularly. Especially when you’re outside, sweating, exercising, or swimming. Particularly chemical sunscreens break down more quickly under the influence of sunlight, making regular reapplication essential.

In addition, visible light - like blue light - also plays a role in hyperpigmentation. That is one of the reasons why some dermatologists mineral filters (e.g. like our Tinge Mineral sunscreen SPF30) recommend for pigment-sensitive skin types. Mineral filters such as titanium dioxide and iron oxides can better protect against visible light than classic chemical filters. Did you know that: Our Tinge mineral sunscreen SPF30 achieved an impressive in vivo SPF score of 49.7 - significantly higher than the required SPF 30 protection.

SPF is therefore not just about “not burning”. It’s about skin longevity: keeping your skin healthy, strong, and even in the long term. Therefore, think of sunscreen more as a daily skincare staple - just like cleansing or moisturising.
